As a pan-African survey research network, Afrobarometer is committed to building data collection, data analysis, and data use skills across the continent. We believe this will enable African researchers, policy actors, and civil society representatives to play an effective role in African decision making and development.

Our summer school programme provides a unique combination of theory and practice, providing substantive insights on democracy, governance, elections, and corruption along with hands-on training in survey research design, data analysis, and visualisation of survey findings.

The programme is ideal for post-graduate students and researchers from government, non-governmental organisations, and businesses with an interest in African governance and democracy issues.

Our upcoming session, 1-26 August 2022, will be delivered in French and co-hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Management at the Université Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar. There will be no translation, so proficiency in French, written and oral, is expected of all participants.

The organisers encourage young people, including young and nursing mothers and those living with disability, to apply for this opportunity. Travel costs, accommodations, meals, and related expenses will be covered by the organisers.

To apply, please submit a CV (maximum of four pages) with details on qualifications, employment history where applicable, and current studies and/or employment. Applicants should also attach a brief statement of motivation (maximum one page) explaining how the summer school will help them advance in their careers. Details about any specific needs should be included in the application.

Applications in French or English, with “French-language summer school” as the subject, should be submitted to admin@afrobarometer.org no later than 5 p.m. GMT on 24 June 2022.
