Jason Owen

Biography

Jason Owen is Afrobarometer’s Capacity Building Manager (Advanced Track). He is a mapmaker and data analyst interested in understanding how people’s aspirations and fears about the future shape governance and social systems in African contexts. He has degrees in economics and geographic information systems (GIS) and is pursuing a PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand School of Governance. Jason has worked with the Ministry of Health in Zimbabwe to deploy GIS-based patient tracking systems and with civil society organisations in Harare to crowdsource and map urban service delivery issues. In his previous role at the University of Pretoria in South Africa he led a capacity building programme to strengthen the way public and private sector organisations use the future to understand and make decisions about the world around them.
