Despite more than half (58%) of Batswana’s positive views in 2014 on the economic direction of their country, a fifth (21%) are pessimistic of the future, anticipating worsening national economic conditions in the next 12 months, according to the latest Afrobarometer study.
In 2014, 45% of the citizens indicated that they expected economic conditions to be “better” or “much better” in the next 12 months. Nonetheless, Batswana have become increasingly pessimistic about the economic future of their country, an increase from 18% in 2003, with fluctuation in between survey periods. (fig. 2).and this is despite the country’s recovery from the global economic recession, a negative economic outlook persists.
